Just north of Indianapolis along Highway 31, the City of Carmel  is one of the fastest-growing communities in the nation, more than doubling its population since 1990, to about 59,000 residents. The city has carefully managed its growth to preserve quality of life--evident by its ranking as one of the top ten places to live in the Midwest by Money magazine.

Carmel offers great schools, numerous public parks, family-friendly neighborhoods, community events, cultural attractions and more. Currently in the planning stages, Carmel City Center would provide high-end retail shops, dining and entertainment venues.

The city encompasses 11 parks covering 234 acres, along with two greenways, Monon Trail and River Trail. Park facilities include athletic fields, playgrounds, picnic areas, walking/jogging paths, fishing ponds, an arboretum and butterfly gardens. An additional park, Central Park, is in the works and will expand the city's parkland by 134 acres when completed.

The Carmel International Arts Festival brings a variety of artists to the area every September, with live entertainment, local and international foods, children's activities and more. The Carmel Community Players provides live local theater, and the Carmel Symphony, comprised of more than 65 volunteer members, performs classical and pops concerts throughout the year.

Carmel Clay Schools enroll more than 14,000 students in 10 elementary schools, three middle schools and a high school. Students consistently perform high on standardized testing, and almost all students pursue some form of higher education. A number of private schools are also available locally.
