Why Buyers Prefer Move In Ready Homes
Move in ready homes are at the top of the list for today's buyers. Years ago, buyers wanted a fixer-upper - not so much today. In fact, a new study shows it's one of the most important factors for home buyers in the current market conditions.
So, why move in ready homes, and how does this affect home sellers?
Why Move in Ready Homes?
The majority of buyers out there are Millennials. This generation as a whole, is not into having to make repairs or upgrades the minute they buy a home. A recent home buyer study shows 77% of potential home buyers won't consider a home that isn't move in ready. 77%! That's over three-quarters of the entire buyer pool out there.
Additionally, the same survey says:
- 67% of potential home buyers only want to consider homes with updated features
- 68% of potential home buyers say the biggest deal breaker when buying a home is disrepair and wear and tear
What Do Buyers Mean by "Move In Ready?"
Typically, buyers want a home that is:
- Structurally safe & sound (roof, foundation)
- Major mechanicals, plumbing & electricity is in good working order and up to today's standards
- Upgraded features and fixtures (lighting, flooring, kitchens, baths, etc...)
Basically, a move in ready home is a home that doesn't need repairs, renovations or to be brought into the twenty-first century, design-wise. Think "turnkey" or "plug-and-play" homes.
